Hoboken is located in northeastern New Jersey, across the Hudson River from Manhattan, NY, which lies to the east; Jersey City, NJ is to the south and west. Hoboken was the site of the first organized baseball game, played at Elysian Fields on June 19, 1846, between the Knickerbocker Club and the New York Nine, both based across the Hudson River.
