Herschel Held was an infielder who spent 11 seasons in the minor leagues, from 1942 to 1952. In 1,133 games, he hit .268 with 205 doubles, 47 triples and 69 home runs. Perhaps his best season was in 1949 with the Albany Senators, with whom he hit .309 with 123 hits, 28 doubles, five triples and 15 home runs. That year, he walked 151 times, tying Pinky May for the Eastern League single-season record.
He managed the West Palm Beach Indians for part of the 1951 season and the St. Petersburg Saints for part of the 1952 season.
