Greer Stadium was built in 1978 for the Nashville Sounds; the Sounds have played there through incarnations in the Southern League, American Association, and Pacific Coast League. The stadium also housed the Nashville Xpress of the Southern League for two years (1993-1994), when they shared the stadium with the Sounds.

The Sounds were scheduled to move into a new downtown ballpark called First Tennessee Field in 2008, but due to problems with financing and design plans, the deal fell through and the new stadium will not be built.
