Father of Dutch Dotterer, MLB catcher (1957-1961) and Tom Dotterer, minor leaguer (1954-1963). Dotterer was a minor league player from 1929 to 1933. He became a scout after an injury during spring training in 1933. He worked for four teams over 40 years including 12 years with the Reds and 14 years with the Indians. He retired from scouting in 1985 when he was with the Yankees organization.
