Hawk Taylor had an 11-year career as a catcher in the majors, occasionally playing in the outfield and at first base. He came up originally at age 18 with the 1957 Milwaukee Braves who won the 1957 World Series, although Taylor did not appear in the Series.
Taylor had a big day on June 20, 1964. Starter Chris Cannizzaro was injured and Taylor came into the game in the second inning. He produced two home runs and two singles to lead the Mets to a 7-3 victory.
