Harry Stees played for Shamokin of the Central Pennsylvania League in 1897-98. He was in the Navy in the Spanish American War and was KIA (killed in action) aboard the Battleship Maine. ----- REMEMBER THE MAINE
He is thus the first known ballplayer to be KIA.
