Harry Smith was a back-up catcher with the Pittsburgh Pirates at a time when they dominated the league in the early 1900's. He was also on the Philadelphia Athletics in their inaugural year in the American League in 1901, and with the Boston Doves for three years, including one year as a player-manager.
He, Harry Wright, Sam Jackson and Walter Carlisle are the only major league players born in Yorkshire, England through 2006.
