Harry Else was a Negro League catcher who only briefly was a starter in a career that stretched through the 1930s.
Else started off with the minor Monroe Monarchs in 1931. Two years later, he moved to the New Orleans Crescent Stars for a season then faded to the even smaller New Orleans Creoles. In 1936, he made it to the top Negro League squads at age 32 with the Kansas City Monarchs as a backup to Quincy Trouppe. Despite being a back-up, Else was the starting catcher for the West in the 1936 East-West Game, hitting 6th. He went 0 for 1 with a walk before being replaced behind the plate by Subby Byas in a 10-2 loss. Else was the Monarchs starter in 1938 and hit .308. Two years later, he concluded his career with the Chicago American Giants.
