[edit] Biographical Information
Catcher Harry Curtis was in the majors with the 1907 Giants. He had been at Syracuse University at a time overlapping with that of Doc Scanlan, and he was at the University of Notre Dame at the same time as Jean Dubuc.
The book Notre Dame Baseball Greats has a photo of Curtis, and says that he had been an All-American football player at Syracuse. Coming to Notre Dame after three years of minor league ball, he played baseball there and was called the best catcher they had ever had in 1907. During 1908 he served as "bench coach", which seems to have been the equivalent of head coach. The 1908 Notre Dame team had five future major leaguers and went 22-1 on the season.
