In 1951 a 27 year old free agent Harry Elliott playing for the Alexandria Aces roughed up the Evangeline League pitchers with a league leading 221 base hits and 52 doubles, including 23 home runs and a .391 batting average. This exibition would get Harry a jump up to the 1952 AA Texas League with the Shreveport Sports and he had another big year , banging out 204 league leading base knocks and also led eveyone with 48 two baggers, with 7 homers and a .321 batting average.

All this noise would get the St. Louis Cardinals attention and they would purchase Elliott from the Shreveport Sports on December 3, 1952 and invite Harry to Sportsman's Park to have a try at it. He would be with the Cardinals for 24 games in 1953 hitting for a .254 average and also appear in 115 games for the AA Houston Buffaloes hitting for a .328 average.

Not discouraged a bit Harry spent 1954 in the PCL with the San Diego Padres where he led the league with 224 base hits, 42 doubles and a .350 batting average. He also had 15 round trippers. In 1955 Harry would be with the Cardinals from the get-go and would appear in 68 contests hitting for a .256 average with one home run. This would be his last appearance in a major league uniform, closing out the two years with a .256 average.

Elliott would be back with San Diego in 1956 where he hit .291, the first time in his minor league career he went below .300. In 1957 he would be with Vancouver and hit .245, switch over to San Antonio and manage only .238 and in 1958 he would wind up his eight year career with Little Rock and Chattanooga, hitting at a .232 average.

Harry would call it a career after the 1958 season. The 34 year old outfielder put together some good numbers during his eight year run in pro baseball. He appeared in 854 games, went to the plate 3,173 times, collected 1,034 base hits, including 205 doubles and 65 homers for a .325 batting average.

Elliott was a graduate of the University of Minnesota, where he was a punter for the Golden Gopher football teams. After baseball he became a physical education teacher and the baseball coach at El Cajon Valley High School in El Cajon, CA.
