Jeffcoat is the son of Hal Jeffcoat and the nephew of George Jeffcoat, William Jeffcoat, and Charles Jeffcoat.
Jeffcoat was draft in the 4th round of the 1965 amateur draft by the San Francisco Giants. After going 15-7 for the Fresno Giants in 1966, he made only one appearance in 1967 for the Waterbury Giants due to military service.
