Hansel Izquierdo pitched 20 games for the 2002 Florida Marlins, posting a record of 2-0. He pitched in Mexico in 2009, posting an ERA of 1.64.
Born in Cuba in 1977, he was drafted by the Marlins in 1995 and spent 1995-96 at their rookie club. The Chicago White Sox picked him up and he played in their organization from 1997-2000. The Cleveland Indians had him for part of 2000. After the 2000 season he was signed by the Florida Marlins and played in their organization in 2001-2002. In 2001 he went 16-3 with three minor league teams.
In 2003-04 he was with the organizations of several teams: Montreal, Boston, the Cubs, Pittsburgh and the Yankees. In 2005 he was the Pittsburgh organization, going 8-6.
During 2006-09 he has pitched in Mexico.
This article indicates that Izquierdo defected from the Cuban national junior team when he was in the U.S. in 1994. Michael Tejera defected with him.
