"Just playing ball." - Hal Epps at age 90, in response to a fan's question about his biggest thrill

Hal Epps had an 18-year professional baseball career, of which four were in the majors. An obituary said he compiled a .300 minor league average. He was in the military in 1945-46, and in 1947 played on the Houston team that won the Dixie Series.

He managed semi-pro teams after his playing days and then worked for many years for Armco Steel.

Epps spent two years in the 25th infantry division, spending time in both the Phillipines and Japan.
