[edit] Biographical Information

Greg Walker spent most of his career with the Chicago White Sox after being selected from the Philadelphia Phillies in the 1979 Rule V Draft. He was the club's starting first baseman for several seasons and hit 27 home runs in 1987. During batting practice on July 30, 1988, he suffered a life-threatening seizure. After missing the remainder of the season, he returned to the field in 1989. In 1990, he joined the Baltimore Orioles and ended his big league career with them.

Once his playing career ended, Walker rejoined the Sox as a minor league coach. He became the club's hitting coach on May 19, 2003.

As a rookie, Walker was part of an unusual three-way platoon at first base, along with defensive whiz Mike Squires and veteran Tom Paciorek. Walker also appeared in 21 games at DH that year.

Walker is the cousin of Harry Spilman and nephew of Harry Spilman Sr.
