Greg Hibbard was signed as a 16th round pick in the 1986 amateur draft by the Kansas City Royals and scout Ken Gonzales.
Hibbard pitched one complete game shutout in his career. It was on September 5, 1990 as a member of the Chicago White Sox against the Kansas City Royals. He gave up 4 hits, walked 5 and struck out 6.
His 15 wins in 1993 were the most by a Chicago Cubs left hander since Ken Holtzman in 1970. This earned him a three-year $6.75 contract with the Seattle Mariners.
Hibbard was nothing short of a disaster for the 1994 Mariners. In 15 games, he amassed a 1-5 record with a whopping 6.69 ERA. The 29-year-old also began having chronic shoulder issues that would cause him to miss the final two years of his deal, being capped by reconstructive surgery. The M's invited him to spring training in 1997, but his rebuilt shoulder did not want to cooperate and he announced his retirement on March 10. He is considered one of the biggest free agent busts in Mariners history.
