Great American Conference
From BR Bullpen
The Great American Conference is a NCAA Division-II athletic conference that is slated to begin in the 2011-2012 school year. The conference will be formed by three schools in Oklahoma leaving the Lone Star Conference and six schools in Arkansas leaving the Gulf South Conference. The main reasons for forming the new conference were "travel costs and travel time away from classes for student-athletes were factors in formation of the new league." [1]
In May 2011 Northwestern Oklahoma State University and Southern Nazarene University were extended provisional invitations to join the GAC. In July, Southern Nazarene was accepted into the NCAA Division II Membership Process, while NOSU was denied admittance into the NCAA Division II Membership Process for the 2011-12 cycle.
