Grand Rapids Shamrocks
From BR Bullpen
In 1890, the Montreal Canadiens moved to Grand Rapids, MI on June 11, becoming the Grand Rapids Shamrocks. The International Association collapsed less than a month later, ending the club's life. The team, which had begun the year in Buffalo, NY, finished 14-29 and 13 and a half games out of first, fifth overall of six teams. Managed by Davis Bacon, the club was led offensively by OF Bill Andrus (.339 to win the batting title, 39 runs and 18 SB in 41 games). SS Jim Connor hit .333 but also spent part of the year with the London Tecumsehs.
