[edit] Team Bio
Founded in 1990, the Grand Lake Mariners are a Summer Collegiate Baseball team playing in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League. The Mariners play their home games in Celina, OH and are the third oldest franchise in the GLSCL behing the Columbus All-Americans and the Lima Locos. The Mariners are a Major League Baseball sanctioned team dedicated to player development, and have contributed several players to the major leagues. The Mariners won their first Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League title in 2004, and repeated the victory in the 2006 season.
Like other Summer Collegiate Baseball teams, the Grand Lake Mariner are dedicated and designed to providing higher level competition for NCAA players that wish to continue on into professional baseball. The Mariners operate in a similar manner to a Minor League team: playing nightly in stadiums before fans, using wood bats and minor league specification equipment, and experiencing road trips between games. Like all other summer collegiate players, the Mariners are unpaid in order to maintain their NCAA eligibility, and many live with host families in the same manner as Single A and Independent League players.
