Gorman Heimueller, who was born in California, spent most of his professional career in the organizations of two California teams, the San Francisco Giants and the Oakland Athletics. He came to the majors in 1983 and 1984 with the A's.

Heimueller attended the California State Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo from 1974-77, the same years that Ozzie Smith was there. Gorman spent 10 years in the minors, through 1986, winning 60 games. His first four years were in the Giants' organization, the next four with the A's organization, and the last two with the Twins' minor league organization. In 1981, split between two teams, he went 12-7 with a 2.73 ERA.

Most of his major league appearances came with the 1983 Athletics, for whom he was primarily a starter and had a 4.41 ERA. The team's overall ERA that year was 4.34. His teammates included Rickey Henderson, Davey Lopes, Carney Lansford and Jeff Burroughs.

After his playing days he became a pitching coach for various teams. He is currently, as of 2009, minor league pitching coordinator for the Philadelphia Phillies.
