The brother of Hall of Famer Gary Carter, outfielder Gordon Carter was selected by the California Angels in the second round of the 1968 amateur draft but opted to attend USC instead. He was then selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 1971 amateur draft and went on to play two years in their chain with the Fresno Giants. He hit .285 with 10 home runs for the team in 1972 while batting .255 with 15 homers in 1973.
