[edit] Biographical Information
Michigan native Glenn Crawford played twelve seasons of professional baseball after signing with the St. Louis Cardinals as an amateur free agent before the 1939 season. Glenn spent most of his first five years in the game (1939-1944) in the minors before making his major league debut with the Cardinals on April 22, 1945.
Glenn would appear in four games for the Cardinals before being traded along with John Antonelli to the Philadelphia Phillies for Buster Adams. Crawford appeared in 82 games with the Phillies, seeing time in the outfield as well as at the shortstop and second base positions. Glenn hit at a .295 average in 306 at-bats.
The following year he appeared in one game for the Phillies, went hitless in one at-bat and on April 22, 1946, one year to the day of his debut, he was sent to the minor league Portland Beavers of the Pacific Coast League and this ended his time in the major leagues.
During Crawford's twelve year run in the minors he had just one season that he bettered the coveted .300 number when he hit .326 for the Duluth Dukes of the class C Northern League in 1941. He also had a good year in 1947 when he hit .298 for the AAA Oakland Oaks of the Pacific Coast League and in 1950 at the age of 36, his next to last season, he hit .297 for the Augusta Tigers of the class A South Atlantic League. He appeared in 1214 games in his 12 year minor league career.
After baseball Glenn returned to his native home in North Branch, MI, where he worked and lived until his death on January 2, 1972. Glenn Martin Crawford was 59 years of age.
