In 1983, Gerald Perry doubled off of Bill Laskey in his first major league at-bat.
Perry served as the hitting coach for the Michigan Battle Cats in 1997 and the Pawtucket Red Sox in 1998. He spent 1999 as the Boston Red Sox minor league hitting coordinator. He was hitting coach of the Seattle Mariners from 2000 to 2002 and the Pittsburgh Pirates from 2003 through 2005. In November 2005, he was hired to be the hitting coach for the Oakland Athletics, and he spent one season in that job. After the 2006 season, Perry became the Chicago Cubs hitting coach. He was fired in June 2009 and replaced by Von Joshua.
Perry is the cousin of Dan Driessen.
