[edit] Biographical Information
Georges Maranda is the only baseball player from the Quebec region of Levis to have played in the Majors. He played minor league baseball in Levis, before moving to the Braves de Quebec. While playing with Quebec, he was discovered by scouts from the Milwaukee Braves, and played with the San Francisco Giants for the first time on April 26, 1960. He stayed with the Giants for two years, the moved to the Minnesota Twins.
In total, he played 13 seasons in professional baseball, but only played for two seasons in MLB.
He pitched for 123 1/3 innings in the majors, retiring 64 hitters on strike-outs.
He retired from the Bigs in 1963, moving to Jacksonville in the American Association.
Maranda is related to independent league pitcher Christian Chénard.

In 1973, the town of Levis, QC named his baseball school the "Stade Georges Maranda" (Georges Maranda Stadium).
He was inducted into the RDS Quebec Baseball Hall of Fame on June 26, 2000.
