At the end of his 16-year minor league career which peaked with his one-game appearance for the Yankees in 1941, Washburn managed three different teams in the Evangeline League starting in 1947, when he took over the reins of the Houma Indians and continuing through 1952, when he finished the season managing the Alexandria Aces. He was at the helm of Houma for four seasons and moved to the Baton Rouge Red Sticks in 1951.
