George Meyer became the everyday second baseman at the end of the season for the 1938 White Sox. He hit .296 in 81 at-bats.
He had been in the Texas League in 1937-38 and afterwards went back to the Texas League. However, Meyer had been born in Chicago and eventually died in the Chicago area.
His manager at the major league level was Jimmie Dykes, who had himself played a lot of second base in the majors.
Jackie Hayes, who was with the White Sox from 1932-40, was the regular second baseman for much of 1938.
