George Kelb played for the 1898 Cleveland Spiders. In 1896-97 he had played for the Toledo Mud Hens as part of pennant-winning teams. He also played professional baseball at other towns in Ohio, in London, Ontario, and in Charleston, Shreveport, Monroe, Beaumont, and Natchez.
After baseball he served as engineer of the Ash-Consaul Bridge.
His obituary in the Toledo Blade mentioned the nickname "Pugger" but did not explain it.
