George Huff was associated with the athletic department of the University of Illinois from 1895 until his death. He was athletic director for 35 years and baseball coach for 24 years (1896-1919). Huff served two stints as the manager of the Boston Red Sox in 1907. He died at age 64 from uremia following surgery to remove a stomach obstruction and is buried at Roselawn Cemetery in Champaign, Illinois.
