George Burpo drew plenty of attention because he was both fast and wild. He once struck out 18 players in a minor league game, but in another one he walked 12 batters. He pitched a minor-league no-hitter, but he also walked five batters in the 2.1 innings he pitched in the majors in 1946.
Burpo was in the Navy from 1943-45, playing service ball and sometimes striking out virtually all the batters who faced him.
After baseball he ran a company in Albuquerque.
