George Bird played center field for the 1871 Rockford Forest Citys as a teammate of Cap Anson. He was two years older than Anson.
Rockford did not field a team in 1872, and Bird did not play further in the National Association. Anson and Bob Addy moved over to the 1872 Athletics.
Bird lived to be 90 years old.
He is one of four major leaguers whose last name was Bird (through 2008).
