[edit] Biographical Information
Although the baseball card above doesn't show it, George Alusik stood 6 feet 4 inches tall, and had some home run power. He played 5 seasons in the major leagues, getting almost all of his playing time with the Kansas City Athletics of 1962-64. In terms of playing time, he was the fifth outfielder in 1962 and 1964, and the fourth outfielder in 1963.
It took him a long time to get to the majors, since he was signed by the Detroit Tigers before the 1953 season, and he didn't get real playing time until 1962. After the 1964 season, he was traded to the San Francisco Giants, and hit .206 in 53 games for the Tacoma Giants.
Until Frank Thomas broke the record for home runs in consecutive games by an Athletics player, Alusik was one of three Athletics players who held the record of hitting home runs in 5 consecutive games.
