[edit] Biographical Information

Ballplayer Sloane Vernon "Vern" Washington was given the nickname George Washington. Although Mule Haas is listed as the third regular outfielder on the 1935 Chicago White Sox, Washington in fact had the most games in right field. Haas, however, played more games in various outfield positions.

Washington won a number of minor league batting titles: in the American Association in 1936 (.390); in the Big State League in 1947 (.404) and 1948 (.384); and in the East Texas League in 1949 (.387). He also led two circuits in doubles, the Texas League in 1939, with 45, and the East Texas League in 1949 with 44.
