George Carman played for the 1890 Philadelphia Athletics, mostly at shortstop and in right field.
Carman hit .172, while the team's regular shortstop, 19-year-old Ben Conroy, hit .171.
He managed in the minors in 1890, and years later was also managing in 1902.
According to his obituary in the New York Times (June 17, 1929), Carman was the manager of the Brunswick Hotel in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He dropped dead in the hotel lobby and his death was attributed to heart disease. He was a member of the Philadelphia Sports Writers' Association.
