Gene Roof's first professional season was with Sarasota in 1976. He played in only 5 games (.238, 0, 2). He was named to the Appalachian League All-Star team in 1977.
Gene is the father of Shawn Roof, Eric Roof and Jonathan Roof, the brother of Phil Roof and minor leaguers Paul Roof, David Roof, and Adrian Roof, and the cousin of Eddie Haas and minor leaguer Lou Haas.
