Gene Leek shared playing time at third base on the expansion 1961 Angels with veteran Eddie Yost. Leek hit .226 while Yost hit .202.
Leek was at the University of Arizona in 1958, signed with the Cleveland Indians before the 1959 season, and made his major league debut in April 1959.
