Gene Snyder was signed by the Philadelphia Phillies in 1950 and traded in December of 1958 to the Los Angeles Dodgers. It was with the 1959 Los Angeles Dodgers that he played his only season in the majors, pitching in 11 games with a record of 1-1 with an ERA of 5.47. In his 26 2/3 innings, he had 7 wild pitches. He did not appear in the 1959 World Series, which the Dodgers won.
- In 1956 spring training, Phillies coach Benny Bengough commented that he was impressed by Snyder's downer: " His downer really falls".
