[edit] Biographical Information
Gene Bailey played five seasons in the majors. With the 1923 Brooklyn Robins, he is listed as one of the regular outfielders - in fact, Zack Wheat had the most games in left field, Bernie Neis played the most in center while Tommy Griffith was the most common rightfielder; however, Bailey appeared at all three outfield positions and was in more total outfield games than Wheat.
He came to the majors for cups of coffee in 1917 and 1919 but didn't get playing time until 1920, when he had 179 plate appearances split between the National League and American League teams in Boston. As noted above, he was a regular in 1923 and then played 18 games in 1924.
Bailey was the baseball coach at Rice University in 1929-1930. He also managed in the minors in 1929 and 1930.
