Led by manager Greg Tagert, the RailCats captured the league title in 2005. The RailCats moved to the American Association following the folding of the Northern League in 2011.
Despite playing in the Chicagoland metropolitan area, the RailCats are exempt from a rule that prohibits an affiliated team from moving within 75 miles of the area, to which the Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox have territorial rights.
