Gary Robinson

Gary Robinson has been a coach, manager, player, scout and umpire.

Robinson played baseball at Gardner-Webb College, setting a school record with a .466 average in 1974 (this still stands through 2008); in 1991, he was inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame. He was an assistant coach at Appalachian State University (1975-1977) and the University of Tennessee (1978-1979). From 1979-1981, he worked as an umpire in the Midwest League and Southern League.

Robinson was head coach at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte from 1982-1991; his record was 280-244-3. He then scouted for the San Francisco Giants, Seattle Mariners and Philadelphia Phillies from 1991-1997. In 1998, he was pitching coach for the GCL Expos.

From 1999-2008, Robinson was a AAA umpire evaluator and also was an administrator at the Union County School District in North Carolina. He will manage the State College Spikes in 2009.
