Fred Ackley pitched two seasons in the majors. He had an impressive 2.08 ERA in 13 innings in 1963.
During 13 seasons in the minors, he won 95 games.
He had one win as a major league pitcher. It was on September 27, 1963 as a member of the Chicago White Sox against the Washington Senators. He pitched 7 solid innings, giving up 2 hits, 1 earned run, walking 4 and strking out 7. The White Sox won the game, 7-1. Hoyt Wilhelm was credited with a save in relief.
He is the other player on Steve Carlton's Rookie Card. Ackley, however, was 7 1/2 years older than Carlton.
Primarily wore number 18.
He was with the Lincoln Chiefs in 1959.
