[edit] Biographical Information

Fred Smith appeared in 18 games for the 1907 Cincinnati Reds. He was a year younger than second baseman Miller Huggins.

Sporting Life of August 10, 1907, reported that Smith was "called home last week by the dangerous illness of his father".

Sporting Life of May 27, 1911 reported that Smith had been a big help to Waterbury in their winning pennant in 1910, but Waterbury had released him. He also played for Terre Haute in 1911.

He is not to be confused with an earlier pitcher of the same name, nor with an infielder of the same name who was his partial contemporary. Sporting Life took to calling this Fred "Fred Smith, pitcher" and the infielder variously as "Fred Smith, the second baseman" or "Fred Smith, shortstop".
