Fred Hill Sr. is the coach of the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights baseball team. He managed at Montclair State University from 1977-1983, taking Montclair to the 1983 Division III College World Series before taking over at Rutgers in 1984. He won his 900th career game in 2007. Under his tenure, Rutgers has produced a number of professional players. Major leaguers Eric Young, David DeJesus, Jay Bergmann, Angel Echevarria, Bob MacDonald, Darrin Winston, and Pete Zoccolillo all played under Hill at Rutgers.
Fred Hill's son, Fred Hill Jr., is the head coach of the Rutgers University basketball team and his brother Brian Hill was the head coach of the NBA's Orlando Magic.
