In 1897 he was also player-manager at Fort Wayne. He had been playing pro ball since age 17.
Charlie Babb was a teammate at both Toledo in 1896 and Fort Wayne in 1897. However, Babb, although almost the same age as Cooke, would not break into the majors until 1903.
