[edit] Biographical Information

Young Fred Beck was the star hitter of the 1910 Boston Doves, leading the National League in home runs and leading the Doves in doubles, triples, homers, and RBI. At age 23, he was the youngest regular on the team.

Beck was a hold-out in the winter after the 1910 season, asking for more money in his contract.

Beck also played decently for the Chicago entry in the Federal League in 1914, managed by Joe Tinker. The team finished second in the league, and Beck's 11 home runs were second on the team.

Beck played 16 seasons in the minors and managed at Cedar Rapids in 1926.

He was born and died in Havana, IL, in central Illinois.
