[edit] Biographical Information
Catcher Frank House began his career with the Detroit Tigers when he signed out of high school for one of the largest bonuses ever paid at the time (around $75,000). Nicknamed "Pig", House missed the 1951 and 1952 seasons due to military service. A steady and reliable receiver, the sturdy and muscular House finished his career with a lofty 46 percent caught-stealing ratio. He later played with the Kansas City Athletics and Cincinnati Reds and hit .248 over a ten-year career. After his playing days ended, he served in the Alabama legislature. House also played a vital role in establishing the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Hall in 1975.
