[edit] Biographical Information

Second baseman Moon Mullen played only one season in the major leagues with the Philadelphia Phillies during World War II.

Mullen attended the University of Oregon and was a member of the school's basketball team that won the NCAA title in 1939. Soon thereafter, he began his minor league baseball career, and he hit .340 with the Henderson Oilers in 1940. After spending 1943 with the Seattle Rainiers of the Pacific Coast League, he was the Phillies regular second baseman in 1944 Phillies, hitting .267 in 464 at-bats. On April 23rd, he got the only hit off Jim Tobin of the Boston Braves as Tobin threw a one-hitter. He missed the next two years while serving in the military. He returned to baseball in 1947 and was player-manager of the Boise Pilots in 1950, leading the team to a seventh place finish in his only season at the helm.

Following his playing days, Mullen was a teacher and coach at Olympia High School in Washington state.
