On September 27, 1940, Floyd Giebell made his second career start and shut out the Cleveland Indians 2-0, defeating Bob Feller and clinching the American League pennant for the Detroit Tigers. It was his third and last big-league win.
Giebell pitched in 28 games for the Tigers from 1939 to 1941. In the minors, he spent several years with Buffalo. His career was interrupted by service in World War II.
After baseball he worked in a lab for a steel company.
