On September 27, 1940, Floyd Giebell made his second career start and shut out Cleveland 2-0, defeating Bob Feller and clinching the American League pennant for the Detroit Tigers. It was his third and last big-league win.
Giebell pitched in 28 games for the Tigers during 1939-41. In the minors, he spent several years with Buffalo. His career was interrupted by service in World War II.
After baseball he worked in a lab for a steel company.
