[edit] Team Bio

The Florence Redwolves are a Summer Collegiate Baseball team playing in the Coastal Plain League. The Redwolves, who play their home games at American Leagion Field in Florence, SC, were formed as one of the founding teams of the CPL in 1997. Originally located in Raleigh, NC and known as the Raleigh Redwolves, the Redwolves won the Coastal Plain League championship in their inaugural year with a 29-21 record. The Redwolves moved the following year to Florence, SC and became the Florence Redwolves. The Redwolves fared poorly their first year in American Legion Field but recovered quickly to make annual post season appearances from 2001 through 2006. The Redwolves actively recruit players, and have hosted collegiate athletes from throughout the United States including several Major League players.

The Florence Redwolves are like every other summer college baseball team, in that they are dedicated and designed to provide minor leaguelevel competition for NCAA players that wish to continue on into professional baseball. The Redwolves operate in the model of an Independent Minor League team: recruiting athletes, playing nightly before fans in stadiums which seat thousands, using wood bats and minor league specification equipment, and experiencing road trips between games. Like all other summer collegiate players, Florence Redwolves athletes are unpaid in order to maintain their NCAA eligibility, and live with host families in the same manner as Single A and Independent League players.
