Fernando Hernandez made his major league debut by pitching one inning of scoreless relief and picking up the win for the 2008 Oakland Athletics against the Toronto Blue Jays on April 9. He had been picked up from the Chicago White Sox in the previous winter's Rule V Draft. However, Hernandez's stint in the major leagues was short-lived: after giving up 6 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks in two innings over his next two outings, he was designated for assignment on April 14.
