[edit] Biographical Information

Fenton "Muscles" Mole played 10 games at first base in September of 1949 for the New York Yankees, who went on to win the 1949 World Series. Mole did not appear in the Series.

1949 was Casey Stengel's first year as skipper of the Yankees, and he used a variety of first basemen, with Tommy Henrich appearing in 52 games there, more than any other player. However, Henrich was used more often in the outfield, appearing in 61 games there in 1949. Johnny Mize, who came to the Yankees in late August that year, also appeared in 6 games at first base.

Mole was still on the roster as of January 1951, but never played for the Yankees after 1949.

Fenton, who had over 100 minor league home runs, may have attracted Stengel's attention in 1948 when he was the top home run hitter for Portland in the Pacific Coast League while Stengel was managing Oakland in the same league.
