Murakami was signed by the Philadelphia Phillies at age 17. He made his pro debut with the 2006 VSL Phillies and hit .249/.337/.300 as a regular outfielder. He was 2 for 8 for Brazil in the COPABE qualifiers for the 2008 Olympics, splitting action in left field. With the same club in 2007, he batted .276/.337/.366. He hit .287/.337/.372 in 29 games for the 2008 GCL Phillies.
